D'Ark Aftermath

(you see what I done there?)

Its been amazing guys, but like all good things, it has to end, and that day my friends, is today. I will never forget you D'Ark.

Film and Making Of DONE!

Yeah, sweet times. Cant wait to see everyones films, going to be epic! Oh and for everyone involved in D'Ark its been amazing. Big shout out to all my other fellow peers in animation to!

Compositing Breakdown.

I've thrown together a quick breakdown of the test I was given for your viewing pleasure, I look forward to BEASTING through the rest of the compositing and effects with F Tizzle this week.

I can't seem to embed it properly for some reason, so watch it in full HD on youtube here!

Truckin' Dirty.

Here is a dirty lens test. Going to paint up several of them today for addition to the final comps.

Everything has been sent to the renderfarm and looking fab! Onto some hardcore comping next week.

Heres a happy Hermit..

Kieran Duncan's Comp Test!

Superb work, still have to add the dust in properly on different layers and put on a dirty lens but its really coming somewhere, cheers Kieran! Also for some reason Youtube has saturated this video to some crazy level for some reason.......

Another comp test (HD)

From Jamie's still I put in with the render layers a vignetting and a grain. What we need to do now is render each character and background separately so we can stick in some dust. Also thinking about putting a dirty lens effect on it and some sort of haze which I'm just about to look into now and perhaps try.

There's a few things wrong with this shot so please don't point the obvious out, its a test. Also I have given these frames to Kieran Duncan to see what he can do with them :).

Colour/Effect Test.

A render of the scene I am animating at the moment with some effects added as a text in photoshop. Gives a kind of projector feel and a little grain added. I think this may be difficult to get to look exactly as this is using after effects but this is an ideal for the moment.

Explosion Animation

A quick comp of the explosion animation with a beauty still. Will look better with a touch of camera shake but didn't have time to add that before the college closed today. I tried adding some animated hatching to the cloud to match the backgrounds, but this can be easily removed/tweaked if it's not to your liking.

Original Render for Previous Post.

The Diffuse/Beauty pass for the comped render below to compare!

Help! Choose your favorite.....

Were having some problems choosing a style. I've botched up a few. Theres one type listed here that I have used for the other 2 renders (which look great) but now that we've stuck the floor in its all gone to ass. I could go back into other scenes and play with them but I thought a new render would be nice to see, try and ignore the sky as it will be a separate pass as it doesn't play too well....Also some of the geometry needs normal softened - no biggie. Anyways feedback from anyone would be nice!

Quick Enviro Render.

This time is real kids. This two render passes from maya layered quickly in photoshop.
No toon line either because I forgot :3

Another random test

Sky texture for beyond the horizon.

Short Render/Composited test

Short test of render layers coming together and composited. Still missing effects and textures.

Early Test Render Number 2!

Ok so the last one needed more work and so does this one!
The Ambient Occlusion has been upped in quality, less blur and a discrete toon line has been added which in my personal opinion should be more bold.

I'm not sure about adding in a proper shadow or not....I'll test that next. Not sure what else to add pass-wise.

Later in compositing we are hopefully getting some dust and haze put in.

Early Test Render

Test render with beauty pass, ambient occlusion pass and zdepth pass all pulled into photoshop. Needs some tweaking specially with colour and brightness. Should be all good though.

Random update: Been working on animation for a few weeks now and everything is going pretty awesomely with a huge chunk of animation done already. Jamie is texturing the environment and once that and the animation is done (soon), its all render/comp/sound/edit. :)

Test with an occlusion pass on the truck.

Environment Colours

An idea of how the sky and environment will look.
I've had to dull down the bright reds from the concepts as it really overshadowed the characters.
Limited colour palette still in use and the sky is similar to that used on "Akronasia" to link the world together properly.

Another texture render.
This time it's the tree with an occlusion pass layered lightly on it too.
It still needs chains and fruit added when it is inside the tank of the truck.

First Music Draft.

Thats a Big 10...

Progress on truck texture so far...

Colour sketch for the Ark. Trying to pair it with Noah using the golden cogs to give him some connection to it. comments?

Hearlis Cornix

(This image may be hard to see in full detail on darker monitor setups.)

Never More.

Colour scheme for the Hearlis Cornix. Texture nearly finished. Renders to come soon!

Junk Hermit Texture

Here he is! Texture 2 done. Onto the Hearlis Cornix (Sight Crow) next. Enjoy.

Getting Crabby

Texturing for the Junk Hermit is going smoothly so far. Coconut crabs are a wonderful inspiration. Have some nice rust detail on the exhaust too.

Quick Update

Just a quick pose with the crab rig fully weighted. Colours are random...lol.

A quick test of chains for the tree.

So the tree rig begins!

An intereting article about coconut crabs - a giant member of the hermit crab family - and its attraction to shiny objects anmong other things.

Oh Yeah! Work it Malcolm!

Forcing Noah into some poses with his finished rig and skin binding.

Random rig pose

Physical Sun and Sky...

...is pretty but it doesn't like surface shaders much - even though the goggles look amazing. This shall be the last physical sun and sky Noah seen. I really don't think we can make it look right. Maya software wins the day. Enjoy.

Random Update

Here follows a couple of test render turnarounds

Also some piston/cog stuff

Also got some uber-low-res images of the truck rig set up and the hermit crab rig set up.

There are controls for everything including the doors, exhausts, steering, independent wheel suspension, trailer twists and controls for the opening of the middle trailer. Everything else will be controlled by expressions, with the whole thing on a motion path.

For the crab its a pretty familiar organic rig.

So far the truck is completed with only the textures needing to be drawn and painted. The crab needs to be skinned and textures drawn. Also Callum's bird is coming along nicely with Jamie's Noah character pretty much finished. Animation should hopefully be starting soon!

We are looking for animators, compositers and others.

Crabby Crab!

Just a little picture of the Hermit Crab character.

For the first time today we got most of the environment (albeit with physical sun and sky and not textured) put together. It is looking wonderfully vast.

Hope you all had a good new year - now get working! =]
